Tamil Karaoke gets a high-five

If your thought that the Eagles and ABBA were the only bands to rule Chennai's karaoke scene, you are in for a big surprise.in what seems like a turn of tides , youngsters in the city are belting to popular kollywood songs, ranging from dapankutthu hits to even melodies numbers.

People singer and a trendsetter for karaoke nights in the city, Nabarun Ghosh says, "When karaoke started off in chennai a few years ago, no one wanted Tamil and only sang along with English tracks. We had to literally fight to get popular film music into the pubs. Today, retro tracks MGR's numbers are most sought after. Even Rajinikananth's Asai Noor vagai.... is a hit. in last few months alone, i have come across some great talents, who sing marvelously. Many of them practice for these evenings. I see them improve every week." he adds.

A working professional in the city, Aravind Krishna, Who often attends karaoke nights with his friends says,"The best thing about this is that we get to sing some of our favorite songs.

Taxi Taxi...is our anthem and we sing it every time we go for karaoke night . There are many bathroom singers among us:so karaoke nights are a boon."

The proprietor of Studio, a few full time karaoke studio, Dr.lankesh says, "we wanted to make sure that we had tamil in our karaoke collection as most people are comfortable with it. The response has been awesome and we have been getting positive feedback since the launch.
